Occupational therapy (OT) focuses on helping and supporting children in exploring and developing the skills they need to engage in activities that are meaningful to them. These “occupations” might include things like playing, learning, eating, dressing, or connecting with others. These are skills they might need to participate in everyday activities that are important for their growth, development, and independence. In a neuroaffirming approach, we focus on embracing and supporting the natural diversity of how children’s brains and bodies work.
The goal is to provide children with the tools and support they need to feel good about who they are, celebrate their unique abilities, and develop the confidence to participate fully in life. The OT works alongside the child and their family, creating a space where all ways of being are valued and supported.
